Charlene Anderson

Date of Birth: March 16, 1961 in Castor AB to Stan and Dorothy Anderson. Siblings: Aileen, Rod and Darren

Attended Halkirk School until Grade 9, then Gus Wetter for High School. Graduated High School in 1979.

Attended Red Deer College in 1980, then UofA, graduating from University of Alberta with a Bachelor of Arts (Honours) in 1986. Attended Osgoode Hall Law School at York University in Toronto and graduated in 1989.

Articled and practised law at Atlin Goldenberg in Toronto, in civil litigation. Met my future husband, David Weyant, while articling. He and I articled together.

Our eldest, Robert Benson Weyant was born in Toronto on October, 1993. Benson is named after my wonderful grandfather, Percy Benson Anderson of Halkirk. A year later, David, Benson and I returned to Alberta and settled in Calgary, where my husband spent most of his childhood (and where his mother continues to reside). Our daughter, Anna was born in April, 1995 and our youngest, Austin was born in June 1997.

During this time, I continued to practice law, but after Austin's birth, I worked for the Alberta Securities Commission where I was Senior Enforcement Counsel. I left the ASC to practice law, in house, at the University of Calgary. I was General Counsel of the UC until 2012.

While at the UC, I obtained my certificate from the Institute of Corporate Directors and served on a number of Boards, including Calgary Technologies Inc., University Technologies Inc., and Strathcona Tweedsmuir School, a private school in Okotoks, where my children attend (or attended). In 2012, I left the UC and worked for a short period of time for a Calgary hedge fund. I was appointed as a Justice of the Court of Queen's Bench of Alberta in February 2013.

My husband is General Counsel of Alberta Health Services. My son, Benson, is studying Microbiology and Immunology at Dalhousie University in Halifax (going into 3rd year). Once finished at Dalhousie, he plans to study medicine. Our daughter, Anna, graduates from High School this June and will be attending the Rhode Island School of Design in the USA, where she will specialize in Studio or Visual Art. Our youngest, Austin, will be 16 shortly, and will complete Grade 10 this year at Strathcona Tweedsmuir School.

We reside in Calgary, and have a summer place at Rochon Sands, which allows us to frequently visit my parents.
